Texas Elopement Locations : Palo Duro Canyon

Unknown to many Texans, the 2nd longest canyon in the country sits in the Texas panhandle just outside of Amarillo. This beautiful red dirt canyon is 120 miles in length, and has so many beautiful photo locations to choose from.

If you are looking for a Texas elopement location, then Palo Duro should certainly be at the top of your list! While the State Park does offer a couple traditional “venues” within the canyon (check them out here) , the rest of the park is full of incredible locations where you can set up to create your lifelong moment!

A few of my absolute favorite locations:

The Lighthouse Trail - 2.5mile hike

While this might be a little more on the strenuous side, the ending is too worth it! The lighthouse rock formation stands out in the canyon beautifully and would be an excellent location for some incredible elopement or engagement photos! (Not to mention the fun images to be captured along the hike!)

The Lighthouse

The CCC Trail - 1/4 mile walk

Just a short walk from the road towards the top of the canyon rim, this trail is home to one of my all time favorite overlooks of Palo Duro. After your walk you’ll arrive at a south-west facing ledge overlooking the lower canyon. If you are bringing along any friends or family, this is a perfect spot for 10 or so people to be a part of your special moment!

CCC Overlook Trail

“The Big Cave” - roadside location

If long hiking just isn’t your thing, but you want to include the beauty of the park, then the Big Cave could be the perfect spot for you and your partner. This is one of my go-to elopement & engagement session locations, the beauty here is incredible!
